WEEKLY PRISTINE RAPIDFIRE MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE

PURPOSE: Your Pristine RapidFire Digital Audio System will work better and faster if you will take a few minutes each week to perform the following maintenance steps. After completing these procedures, you will have more free space on your hard disk drives, and your hard disks will be optimized for maximum performance.

SCHEDULING COMPUTER:

  1. Un-do ALL Playlists in Pristine Music Plus.

    • In Pristine Music Plus, select PROGRAMMER from the Main Menu on the top of the screen.
    • Go to the bottom of the red Programmer Menu and choose UNDO A PLAYLIST.
    • Read the instructions on the screen.
    • Enter ALL to delete all playlist files.
    • Exit the system from the Main Menu on the top of the screen.

  2. Delete all DAILY ASCII DATA FILES created by interfaces for Music Master, Powergold, Selector, DARTS, CBSI, Super Log, or any other non-Pristine scheduling program. There should be an option on your Control Panel Menu for this item.

  3. Backup all Pristine Data Files on floppy disk and store your backup in a safe place. Once again, there should be an option on your Control Panel Menu for this function.

  4. If you are using a Pristine Music Plus to create your playlists, go to UTILITIES, select FILE MAINTENANCE, then select REMOVE INACTIVE MP MEMBERS. Also from the UTILTIES menu select SHUFFLE MUSIC PLUS MEMBERS. This process will check the integrity of your database, reindex your files, and restart your pointers.

  5. Optimize your Scheduling Computer's hard disk by running MS-DOS Defrag, Norton Speedisk, or a similar program if your Scheduling Computer is running MS-DOS as its operating system. Use the Hard Disk Maintenance Disk supplied by Professional Management Services, Inc. If you do not have a maintenance disk, email Professional Management Services to request one. Some systems will have an option on the Pristine Control Panel for this step, which will require a password.

If your Scheduling Computer is running Windows 95/98/NT, then use the defrag and optimization utilities that come with those operating systems.

    • Click MY COMPUTER.
    • Right Click on the hard drive you want to defrag and optimize.
    • Click on PROPERTIES.
    • Click on the TOOLS tab.
    • Click on the CHECK NOW Button.
    • Click on STANDARD Button.
    • When Scandisk is completed, then click on the DEFRAGMENT NOW Button.
    • Follow instructions on the screen.

PLAYBACK COMPUTER:

  1. Using Pristine's RapidFire Utilities on the Scheduling Computer, delete expired playlists over the network.

    • On the Scheduling Computer, go to PRISTINE RAPIDFIRE MENU.
    • Choose number three DELETE PLAYLIST FROM ON-AIR. This process will delete not only your playlist files, but also your history files. We recommend that you run this routine only once a month around the 10th, then delete the previous month's files by entering MMM* (i.e. JAN* for January), and delete a month's worth of files at one time. It is best to run this routine when RapidFire is not playing hard disk audio.

  2. Purge/Delete all expired SP*.SPC audio files from the MUSICMGR subdirectory using Pristine Transfer Plus on the Production Computer. This process will purge/delete the expired audio files from both the Production and Playback computers in one process. Be careful to enter the correct audio file numbers to purge/delete because you cannot recover them once this process is completed.

    • From the Control Panel on the Production Computer, choose Pristine Transfer Plus.
    • Select the correct drive to purge.
    • In the QUE, just like transferring, enter up to twenty audio file numbers that are to be purged and deleted. Press F1 after completing the Que.
    • Now select DELETE from the Transfer Plus Main Menu on the top of the screen.
    • Choose the correct Server to purge/delete from.
    • Follow the instructions on the screen. The system will pause between purging/deleting files from each computer.

  3. If needed purge/delete audio files created by RF Edit and TimeWarp in the C:\SPC subdirectory of the RapidFire Playback Server.

    • Purging/Deleteing audio files from the C:\SPC subdirectory on the Pristine RapidFire Playback Server may be necessary from time to time. This can be accomplished by using either Microsoft Windows Explorer over the network (if available), Microsoft DOSSHELL File Utility program which is explained by clicking here, or using Pristine Audio Commander, as explained below.
    • From the Production Computer, select Pristine Audio Commander. It doesn't matter which default drive Audio Commander is setup for because you will have to point it to the Playback Server's C:\SPC subdirectory.
    • After starting Audio Commander on the Production Computer, press SHIFT and F7 at the same time to change the active drive. Select the RapidFire Playback Server's C-Drive which is usually setup as O-Drive on the network.
    • Once you have Audio Commander pointed to the C-Drive of the Playback Server (usually O-Drive on the network), now you must change to the SPC subdirectory by moving the cursor to the very top of the directory list in the navy blue box on the left side of the screen to the *..* and press enter. If you do not see a *..* at the top of the directory, press SHIFT and F9 at the same time to toggle to ALL FILES and you should see the *..* at the top. Make sure the path is correct on the top of the navy blue box, it should be O:\ normally, or the network drive letter you are using that is mapped to the C-Drive on the Playback Server. Now you should be at the root directory of the Playback Server.
    • Now move the cursor down with the arrow keys to the *SPC* subdirectory and press ENTER to get into the C:\SPC subdirectory.
    • Highligh the files one at a time to purge/delete with the cursor and press SHIFT and F8 at the same time to delete the file. Follow the instructions on the screen.
    • Exit Audio Commander when completed.

  4. Optimize your Playback Computer's hard disk by running MS-DOS Defrag, Norton Speedisk Version 6.01 or earlier, or a similar program. Use the "Hard Disk Maintenance Disk" supplied by Professional Management Services, Inc. If you do not have a maintenance disk, email Professional Management Services to request one. Some systems will have an option on the Pristine Control Panel for this step, which will require a password.
